A Response To “‘Expert Panels’ Won’t Improve Health Care”

Unfortunately, private funding for marketing research process is nowhere close to the funds available from taxpayer-funded, Federal agencies like NIH, NSF, etc. During my tenure, the Grants process became more and more 'political' as more and more non-scientists - physicians - became involved in evaluating grant proposals. Many were blatantly biased towards friends, colleagues and especially, 'fellow travelers'. And basic research became more and more secondary to statisically ridiculously designed Read More...

My View On “Dorothy Rabinowitz: The Alien in the White House”

The president must remain above the prejudices of American constituents. You share a myopic view and job seek to enlist the president in your fight against the Moslem world. Pres. Obama is really a moderate -- brought up in an affluent part of the United States -- he does not seek to overturn, nor does he seek to view any group in a prejudicial matter. If you ever studied the life of Winston Churchill, you would know that his last great, but vain goal was to try to bring peace between the United Read More...

Some Thoughts On “Clifford Winston and Robert Crandall: Time to Deregulate the Practice of Law”

If you get rid of the ABA requirement for accreditation of law schools, you still have individual state bars you must be a member of. That is the real driver of the expense of providing legal services. Do you want to get rid of the state bar too? what about Federalism???????? The authors are targeting a problem that doesn't exist. Legal fees and costs have remained steady or dropped in the past 10 years. As opposed to health care costs which have risen 400%. A divorce decree today costs the same Read More...

My View On “Propelling the Profit Comeback”

I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but that doesn't mean that some very large corporations might not see the world the same way and take individual actions that on a collective basis would look a lot like a conspiracy. A lot of WSJ readers have been very sympathetic to BP, and we see many comments about how bad, old Obama is extorting BP, etc. Nothing has happened or been done to BP that it hasn't brought upon itself. BP likes to say it is accepting responsibility for the blow-out, but you Read More...

A Response To “U.S. Auditing Board to Study Accounting”

No need to rotate, just make firms liable if there are blatant misstatements. No action was taken against auditors for the financial crisis. Although, a majority of the liability rests with the company's management. Auditors should face some liability. The costs associated with learning a new business consulting firms (especially mega global corporations) takes about 2 years. Only then can an auditor be proficient. They should rotate auditors, but not necessarily audit firms. Disclosure: I am an Read More...

Some Thoughts On “Switzerland and the Minaret”

Until Muslims purge their religion of all the violence, they'll remain a bottom tier, lower class religion. They must effectively police this element out. However, Muslins for whatever reason, fear being the most common excuse, refuse to do it. Muslims do not even show proper outrage at the acts of violence committed in their name. They'll get more of this kind of treatment. Don't expect first-class status for low-class behavior. I, for one have little sympathy. I feel the fear and do it anyway Read More...

Commentary On “Hospitals Overhaul Emergency Rooms to Reduce Mistakes”

As an observation, I think of the real issues why people feel like they haven't received care is because of America's (and American doctors in training) endless fascination with gadgets. In an emergency, would YOU want a machine to take your vitals? There is absolutely nothing that replaces a doctor or nurse from actually evaluating a patient with their eyes and ears. Otherwise, we could just get a machine to do a diagnosis and skip all that pesky clinical training time for doctors and nurses. If Read More...

Analysis On “First Photos of Giffords Released”

That is so sad. I mean, it's fantastic that she's doing as well as she is, but very sad what apparently has been forever lost, and what she (and others who were injured or murdered) have endured. And all because of one drama crazy and wicked individual (there are crazy people who aren't violent). Not to get political (that's not my intention) but folks, this is why many of us on the more conservative side are tough on criminals, and less tolerant of deviant & disruptive behavior (as Loughner had Read More...

My View On “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior”

My point is they NEVER practice their English skills. The Indians consistently speak English wether or not it is their first language. The Chinese NEVER practice. I employ 15 Chinese immigrants and they never speak English at my business. I go to the park and the Chinese never speak English unless they speak to a non Chinese person. This is why their writing and speaking skills lack so much. You won't learn the piano well, according to her philosophy, if you only practice 1/2 hour a day. You must Read More...

Criticism On “Cirque du Soleil: A Circus Not Worth Flipping Over”

Not all Cirque du Soleil shows have zero emotional artistry. Don't judge all by one. Doing so would be like judging all stage plays by one experience or all movies made by same producers based on one title. LOVE is one of the most entertaining ORIGINAL live performing arts productions in recent DECADES. The choreography, staging, artists' performances, costume and music combined make it a wonderful theatre experience which delights audiences of all ages. Storytelling through body movement can be Read More...
